First Quarter Book Report

Queen of Babble

By Meg Cabot

This quarter I read the book, Queen of Babble. The book is about Lizzie Nichols whose big mouth keeps getting her into trouble. In the beginning of the book Lizzie is having a graduating-from-college party when she finds out from one of her professors that she hasn’t graduated yet until she finishes a 50-page thesis on the history of fashion(her major). She tells no one about this, except one person. The next day she goes to England to meet her boyfriend Andy. Things don’t go as planned in England, because of Lizzie’s big mouth. Her big mouth causes Andy to be in trouble with the bank and her to be boyfriend-less. With no place else to stay in London she’s gets on a train to France to  meet her best  friend Shari. On the ride she spills all the feelings she has inside to a complete stranger who is actually Shari’s boyfriend’s best friend, Luke. She meets Shari at Luke’s father house to help with a wedding.  When the wedding day comes it is made even more chaotic when Lizzie’s ex-boyfriend Andy crashes the party to get back with her and to get $500 loan to pay off his gambling debt. Lizzie saves the day by replacing the bride’s hideous, over laced dress with a restored Givenchy dress. In the end she gets the guy of her dreams, Luke.

In the novel the protagonist, main character, is Lizzie Nichols. Most of her actions are motivated by her big mouth. For example, in the bank Andy asks her to lie for him so he could get a loan from the unemployment office and she ends up telling the people at the bank that he already has a job. Since, this happened she asks to go to the girl’s bathroom and runs away. The antagonist of the story would be Dominique Desautels, Luke’s boyfriend. She is the antagonist of the story because she is the girlfriend to Lizzie’s crush. Dominique knows Lizzie has a crush on her boyfriend, Luke, and hates her because of this. In the book she tricks Lizzie into doing an impossible task: fixing the bride’s disaster of a dress she does this to make Lizzie look bad. Lizzie doesn’t fix the dress but, finds/repair an old Givenchy dress for the bride to wear.

Overall, this was very interesting book. Every chapter was full of detail so vivid that I could see the pictures in my head as I read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read realistic fiction books because even though it is fiction the whole story could happen in real life.
