“Nice to hear that Ms.Jones” said Mr.Hanson.
“Class your homework would be…”
Mr.Hanson was interrupted by the bell and the whole class ran out before he could finish giving out the home work. They were all glad that school was finally over.
At Alysa’s house
“Hey is anyone home?” said Alysa.
She didn’t see anyone home so she found a snack and tried to start her social studies project. She was suppose to make a collage of pictures of her growing up. She started looking around for her baby pictures but couldn’t find them anywhere. All she could find were old pictures of a little that looked nothing like or like any of her relatives. The pictures were covered in dust and stained by juice and the edges look burnt. On the back of the pictures there was only one word. Myra.
“Who’s Myra” Alysa said to herself.
She didn’t know anyone in her family whose name was Myra. She found pictures of Myra when she was a newborn up until she was four. But that was it. Nothing after age four. In the same cabinet she found the pictures, she found court papers and crumpled up letters. All Alysa could think about is ”Where are the pictures of me?
On one of the letters she saw her name on it.
Alysa is my baby girl. I want my daughter back……
“Alysa, I’m home”
“Mom’s home,” Alysa madly whispered to herself.
She quickly locked the room door.” I’m busy i’ll be out in a minute.”
“OK”
After she was done she came out.
She tried to avoid her mom for the rest of the day, but then cam dinner time. The time were there was always talking between them. Since her dad was working late it was only her and her mom.
“Great its me and mom” Alysa said sarcastically.
Dinner Time
Chew. Swallow. Water. Napkin. Repeat. That’s all that Alysa could do. But the awkward silence was deeply killing her mom. All her mom could do it pick at her food and stare at her daughter. Mom looks up. Daughter down. Mom down. Daughter glares. Mom up. Daughter down. Mom with puppy dog eyes. Done. Alysa picks up her plate and dumps it in the kitchen sink. Twenty minutes after dinner her mom comes into the room. She didn;t have much to say. But Alysa knew what she wanted to say. Alysa put on her realist fake smile she could do. Her mom saw the mask.
“My stomach hurts,I’m going to bed”, Alysa said.
“Oh, OK” her mom said.
On the phone
“Alex I think somethings wrong with Alysa?”
