The Pearl Summary
In chapter 5 of The Pearl, the morning after Kino kills someone, Juana tries to throw the pearl into the water but Kino finds her just before she does it. He hits her in the face and then kicks her. Juana is very shocked and frightened by what the pearl has caused him to do. Next, Juana, Kino, and Coyotito travel back to the village to Kino’s brother’s house, Juan Tomas. When they’re there they tell Juan Tomas and his wife what happened, and not to tell anyone. Juan tells gives them advice about them going north. The chapter ends with Kino telling his brother that he will not give up the pearl because the pearl has become his soul.
In chapter 6(the last chapter) it starts off with Kino , Juana and Coyotito traveling and trying to cover up there tracks when Kino sees three trackers probably looking for them. They keep traveling trying to aviod the trackers. When it is night time Kino sees two of the trackers are sleeping and tries to steal the rifle. The trackers wake up, but, Kino still get the rifle and shoots one of the trackers who was trying to swim away. Then, Kino shoots something else. It is actually he’s son Coytito he has shot. DEAD. Finally in the chapter Kino and Juana go back to La Paz with the now dead Coyotito in Juana’s arm. They walk into the village like”well-made wooden dolls” and Kino walks near the water, takes a look at the pearl and throws it into the sea.
1. Kino won the lottery, but what was the price he head to pay for such luck? Use a least two example from the text to support your answer.
Kino finding the pearl for like winning the lottery for him. He really did had to pay for this luck. For example in the text he had to run away for his home because he killed someone who attacked him for the pearl. Another example is in chapter 6 when trackers came looking for Kino because he killed someone. He steals a rifle from one of the trackers and accidentally kills Coyotito he’s son, his ONLY son.
