Children’s Book

 Download

My group is doing a children’s book on acceptance and appreciation. It’s about a girl named Molly who is a tomboy whose only friend is her widowed dad. One day she and her dad are fishing in the lake by her house. It’s quiet then suddenly her reel starts tugging harder and harder pulling Molly in closer to the lake. She doesn’t give up without a fight pulling back a huge silver fish. With fins so long and wavy like hair. Her father asks with a drooling mouth, “Let’s fry it and eating it,Molly.” ” No, I want to keep it as my pet.” “Okay if that’s what you want”, Molly’s father says disappointed. They go home and Molly puts the fish in her aquarium in her room. That was once filled with lots of colorful fishes but when her mother died the fishes did too. She out the large silver scaled fish and look at it. “I’ll call you Angel.” In the past week, Molly would talk to Angel like Angel could understand her until one day Angel responded. Angel told Molly she was a magical wishing fish that can grant unlimited wishes. This was so unexpected that Molly almost fainted. In one week Molly made a thousand wishes. Mostly the wishes were about making her popular and getting her the latest things. The first three wishes Molly was very grateful. Then Molly stop saying thank you and started being unappreciative Angel. Angel couldn’t take all this rudeness and she began to die slowly. One the last night Angel had to live she told Molly did. Molly was so upset. She didn’t see how she was changing. When Angel died Molly cried for the first time since her mother died.

In the project we’re doing I am the writer. My job is to write the plot of the story and to work with the illustrator on what to draw so the drawings match up with the writing.

My Interests

The type of books I like reading is realistic fiction and urban fiction. An issues I am interested in is global warming because it is here and it will say if we don’t be more environmentally friendly and aware. Another issue is I am interested is the Iraqi war. My favorite type of writing assignment is a free-write because you can write what ever you want and make it into a good written piece. I think I should be ”buddy up” with Flamingfireworks because their posts are very interesting and I think I could get along with that person but I’m not that sure.

The Pearl Summary

In chapter 5 of The Pearl, the morning after Kino kills someone, Juana tries to throw the pearl into the water but Kino finds her just before she does it. He hits her in the face and then kicks her. Juana is very shocked and frightened by what the pearl has caused him to do. Next, Juana, Kino, and Coyotito travel back to the village to Kino’s brother’s house, Juan Tomas. When they’re there they tell Juan Tomas and his wife what happened, and not to tell anyone. Juan tells gives them advice about them going north. The chapter ends with Kino telling his brother that he will not give up the pearl because the pearl has become his soul.

In chapter 6(the last chapter) it starts off with Kino , Juana and Coyotito traveling and trying to cover up there tracks when Kino sees three trackers probably looking for them. They keep traveling trying to aviod the trackers. When it is night time Kino sees two of the trackers are sleeping and tries to steal the rifle. The trackers wake up, but, Kino still get the rifle and shoots one of the trackers who was trying to swim away. Then, Kino shoots  something else. It is actually he’s son Coytito he has shot. DEAD. Finally in the chapter Kino and Juana go back to La Paz with the now dead Coyotito in Juana’s arm. They walk into the village like”well-made wooden dolls” and Kino walks near the water, takes a look at the pearl and throws it into the sea.

1. Kino won the lottery, but what was the price he head to pay for such luck? Use a least two example from the text to support your answer.

Kino finding the pearl for like winning the lottery for him. He really did had to pay for this luck. For example in the text he had to run away for his home because he killed someone who attacked him for the pearl. Another example is in chapter 6 when trackers came looking for Kino because he killed someone. He steals a rifle from one of the trackers and accidentally kills Coyotito he’s son, his ONLY son.

The Pearl vs. Lottery Winners

In chapter 3 of The Pearl Kino finds a pearl that many people call ” Pearl of the World”.  all of sudden people are coming to him asking him for favors. This chapter is also like the article about lottery winners. In the chapter Kino had so many things he wanted to do now that he had the pearl which included him and Juana getting married and Coyotito going to school. His dreams are interrupted with the doctor coming in his house to telling them Coyotito is still very ill and might die from the scorpion sting. In the end the doctor heals Coyotito and asks for the bill and what they will be paying with. This part is like the article because the people in the article were people who won the lottery and loss it all to many things. For example buying too many thing and borrowing too much. Kino was like this because he thought about the many things he would buy. Also in the article the winners had family members asking for money and getting sued unnecessarily like Kino and his neighbors. I predict that in the book Kino will lose the pearl like the lottery winners lost their fortune. For example the doctor may ask for it or steal it or he might throw it back into the sea because of all the trouble its bringing.

Summary of Lottery Winner Who Lost Their Millions

The article I read named “8 lottery winners who lost their millons” is about how winning the lottery is truly a nightmare. Also in the story is talks about how lottery winners loost thier money and become lottery “losers”. For example many of the people lost thier money to begging family members. Some lost it to unnessary sueings by former girlfriends, and angry family memebers. Most lost their money to too much spending and unpaid. Also in the article is tells how many of the lottery winners didn’t have the control to keep it.
